#3 Education and the “Culture Wars”
What is taught? Who are “our” students? Who are “our” teachers? What role does the community play in working within the educational system? These critical questions have been asked and argued since shortly after the founding of the United States. Pete Clancy, South Central UniServ Representative for the Iowa State Education Association and current doctoral student at the University of Iowa in the Schools, Culture & Society program focusing on the History of Education, and I discuss the current culture wars, where that history begins and the ways in which our communities can work together to ensure our system of public education continues to address the needs of all students.
