#6 To Be Young, Black, a Single Mother and Doctoral Candidate

Finding a way when there isn’t a clear one laid before you can be difficult. For the last ten years, my friend Dr. Nicole Gainyard about collaborating together to share our experiences as single mothers and doctoral students. Though our paths were somewhat different, we have many parallels in our motivations for seeking a doctorate as well as common experiences in Iowa City as we both separately and together, strove to make a path where there really wasn’t one. Join us as we discuss our experiences and provide advice for those who wish to pursue a similar path.
